Ram Council Gala to celebrate teens’ substance-free living


The Ram Council Foundation is gearing up for their second Annual Gala: Dance Party to be held at the Country Club of New Canaan, April 28, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

The organization, a New Canaan-based non-profit run by substance abuse prevention expert and Ram Council President Joyce Sixsmith, is 100 members strong and consists of local high schoolers who’ve committed to substance-free living. Ram Council Foundation members, their parents, professionals in the field and beyond are invited to attend.

Guest speakers include First Selectman Kevin Moynihan, Robin Seymour of Newport Academy, Dr. John Santopietro of Silver Hill Hospital, John Hamilton of Mountainside, and Ram Council board member and attorney Mark Sherman.

Sixsmith will speak to the benefits of substance free living and her expansion efforts throughout Fairfield County. Melissa Barrett, program leader of the Warrior Council in Wilton will talk about joint projects with Sixsmith and substance free activities. In addition, two Ram Council student members will be awarded for their Outstanding Community Spirit.

Ram Council student members will present their accomplishments and new goals as well as their plans for Project Membership: School Year 2018-2019. Former First Selectman Robert Mallozzi, currently of Bankwell, will present the Robert Mallozzi lll Award for Outstanding Dedication to Ram Council board members Lance Minor, Robert Curry and the Kiwanis Club of New Canaan. Dan Sixsmith, Ram Council co-advisor, will moderate the celebration.

The Ram Council’s mission is to raise awareness about substance abuse and to prevent it among youth. The organization also provides alternative, substance free activities for members as well as educational forums for the community at large. Student members attend monthly dinner meetings to plan their highly attended, informative events and also gather for beach nights, bowling and the like.
